Modern noise

Well I only live yards from the West Coast Main Line and sitting in our garden we might as well be sitting on a platform somewhere. But hearing the trains day and night, living so close, is "the norm" and when there is no trains because of engineering work I find it difficult to get to sleep, but listening to these modern trains, the traction motors seem to be so different to the ones in BR days, the modern ones sound as if they are screeching and really labouring to what the old ones used to do, especially on the units that make up the local trains to Euston.
Funny how the noise is different.

Modern units have 3 phase tracgtion packages which do sound as if they are screaming, or the wheels are slipping. Siemans trains make a very loud noise. BR built units nearly all had DC serries wound traction motors, and make more of a humming sound.
Hope this is helpful
