Newbie onboard in eastleigh (70d)

Hallo Everyone
I've just found my way to this site, and it looks like it could be a great source of information from learned enthusiasts!
In my younger years, my late Dad got me hooked on Railways in the late 50's.. I was just coming into it before the Axe fell on loads of classes of steam engines I grew to love, and saw the incoming of the enemy!! And yet the wheel has tuned full circle. As the survivors of the 1st generation diesels! ie the ones that were any good work out there last days! (20's, 31's, 37's, 47's, 73's etc)
We moved down to Eastleigh last summer and incredibly our new apartment backs onto the LSWR mailine. I look out across Eastleigh north yard!!!! These days it's a haven for 66's, with the occassional 67, and 60 visiting!
SO I think this site will be hopefully good for exchanging notes and confirming whats been going throughh here. Like the Class 47 I saw on Monday morning, running North, with what looked like 4 early Mk3 coaches in tow!! What the heck was that? anyone know???
Cheers n Beers

Hello Ian and welcome to the Railway Forum. You were lucky, I never saw any BR steam as I was living in Africa in the 50's and 60's. I have to admit to a hint of a liking for the early class of tin cans, but steam is my first love.

Hi Ian, and welcome. I don't often say 'hello' to newbies, but you're in my neck of the woods - I often go to Eastleigh to take photos of anything that moves on rails!

Hi Dave
Well there could be a watering hole for you on a cold day if you fancy a coffee?
