Spotting

Hi everyone. My first post here. I've recently bought a van converted campervan as my autistic son loves campervan and trains. So.... anyone know where I can park up near tracks and watch or record trains? I'm in central Scotland but have been to various locations from Glasgow to York. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, welcome to the forum.
I'm not too familiar with Scotland or even North of England but when I last visited Scotland in 2012, I remember that the A86 road into Newtonmore (just south of Aviemore) runs alongside the railway.
Wherever you end up going, check out www.realtimetrains.co.uk to get a good idea of what you can expect to see - use the detailed search and you just have to enter the location and date.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Google EARTH can be good for finding suitable locations (like lay byes etc).

The park and ride car park south of York (Askham Bar YO23 2BB) seems to have a good view of the East Coast main line, and it's free to park. (when I was last there)

Have a look at the Railadvent web sight.
Also the Railway Touring Company web sight and there are a few others that I am sure you will find on the net.
All the best...Stuart
