Merseyrail 502 unit under threat

The unique LMS built class 502 EMU has to find a new home within twelve weeks or it could be lost forever. The unit was undergoing restoration at Tebay in Cumbria, but the land owner has had an offer for the site. So the friends of the 502 unit urgently need funds to move the unit to a new home so restoration can continue . http://www.class502.org.uk/news-blog...-move-the-502/

Isn't there a place somewhere with the space for it

Perhaps the Suburban Electric Railway Association can offer some advice.

Shildon Restorations may be able to help they have a lot of space.

I hope something can be sorted out, I grew up with these units. Criminal that the NRM allowed them to go like they did

The ideal home for the unit would be somewhere on or near Merseyside, but anywhere would be considered. The unit did operate in preservation during the 1980's & its hoped to be able to do so again. Failing that a static / cosmetic restoration in a museum would ensure is survival. The main problem at the moment is lack of funds for such a move, certainly not helped be the current economic situation.

Crewe would be good place to keep it.....
