Beer on the Rails
 

This talk of beer reminded me of years ago when I was going to build a 7 1/4 inch Rocket. The project never got any further than being given a plastic barrel just the size for the water tank but possibly it will be reincarnated as a 7/8 scale Beer Wagon.
After 'rescuing' from the darkest recesses of the garage where it has lain for perhaps 20 years and comparing it with a typical 2 foot gauge van body, it does not look too badly oversize and would make a change from the normal van, coach, open wagon or side tipping trucks that normally abound on garden railways. It was originally filled with Sherry and the hole in the side (bottom) can be plugged easily and the big hole opposite intended for the water filling point can also be utilised. No problems making up a wagon but the big unknown is how well the beer will travel.
A great advantage of these larger scale models is that you can within reason make up whatever you fancy for rolling stock and be sure that somewhere there was something similar created on a 2 foot system. Just search through narrow gauge websites and see some of what was planted on even the side tipping skip chassis.

You should perhaps establish a "quality commitee" which would perform periodic tests in order to check the quality of beer after having been transported in your wagon.

Tests could be run every friday, by the end of the afternoon in your garden!

Of course, in order to help, I volunteer to be member of this commitee!

Brewed 5 gallons for Christmas but also have found some little crates of chocolate liqueurs that just fit onto the garden railway wagons. If I arrange each lap to take 1 3/4 minutes I can snatch one each time it comes round and they should last until I have finished grilling the turkey. If I run out of those there is plenty of beer for all.

I think I had better start brewing again,
Good job I am getting more fermenting vessels.
No problem with beer but will all visitors bring their own crisps and nuts.

No problem with the chips and nuts, but do you need us to have our own pint mugs. I also think that the young lady I saw on one of you photos might object to washing up the mugs before we crawl away.

Do you prefer Glass or Pewter?
Myself I prefer the Pewter Tankard and even SWMBO has her own Half Pint which she uses for her Cider (I brewed 3 gallons for her). There should be enough to go round providing the groups are no more than a dozen each time. For those others with SWMBO s of their own we are adding spices and brandy to the elderberry wine (which was already 30% vodka, needed a bit of reinforcing as it seemed a bit weak at 12%)
