Hi
Does anyone recognise these 2 postcards of a railway station and one of a Station Hotel,I know it's a bit of a long shot but would appreciate any comments. Regards TTT http://www.railwayforum.net/attachme...1&d=1414246455 |
Hello TommyTT and welcome to the Railway Forum. Sorry I cant help with your query as I only arrived in the UK in 1969. I hope someone on the forum is able to help you.

I don't know if it's just me but I can only view the picture of the Station Hotel and not the station? I feel that the date (1858?) on the side of the building will provide a help - to more knowledgeable members than me at least - and is it possible to read the big notice attached to the building above the doorway?

Or even the signs in the windows ?

Look at the "yorkshireman"pub at Rugeley trent valley ,it was the station hotel and did have a door in the middle ,now much modernized but the original building.

Looking at this photo
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUse...nd.html#photos I fear it is not the same building.:( |
I had just been looking at Rugeley TV on Google Earth, just before 41225 posted, since I have never been there; thought I would wait for Phil to comment;). The two pictures may not be related, the station buildings seem in better condition than the hotel. The hotel has clay tiles on the roof while the station has slate. Around Stoke on Trent the old buildings seem to have clay tiled roofs, obviously because of the pottery industry, and I think slate would have to be transported from Wales. Both locations have natural stone walling, and the station is prone to flooding. The writing on the windows could be “Smoke Room” or even “Stone Brewery,” I am told there was a Stone Brewery that had houses across Nottingham and Derbyshire. Frustrating isn’t it.

See photo 16 on this link.
http://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/det...35uWepmvBAK.97 The window positions are different, but the building style is VERY similar. |
