Manchester central reopening?

Yesterday I mangaged to look at Castlefield Viaduct closely.
The trees have been felled on it, the weeds killed, fresh balast (well begining to show weeds now) and the gates removed.
I am begining to wonder if Central station is going to see trains again. The metrlink tracks have also been slewed at the last track and catenery replacement. This could allow for to tracks to be reinstated. There seems to be a lot of JCBs in front of where the platforms used to be. Not enough time for photos, but it made me wonder none the less.

Not all of it can. The Beetham tower is in the path of one of the former approach roads. I think 4 platforms towards the metrolink side could do, but there is no space for the trackwork to squeeze more in. In that picture you provided it would be if anywhere the left side of the station. The car park currently on the remaining approach viaduct would have to go.

I'm not sure there are any plans for this? The exhibition hall just underwent a major refurb or somesuch.

I think there would have been some indication before now if it were to reopen.

I can't see the reason for the big work done on the viaduct or the metrolink track alignment if that is the case.

Maybe they are clearing it so to make it safer for demolition?

Trains returning to Central? They would need tracks leading to it wouldn't they? All the tracks into Central were lifted before SFE was born. I could envisage it being used as a terminus for some trams from Altrincham and the new Airport extension.

I doubt that they will demolish castlefield viaduct. It is grade 2 listed and possibly going to become grade 1. If they wish to demolish the bridge why have fresh ballast laid? Yes the tracks were lifted well before I came to this earth, but what really maters is what is there now. The manchester airport terminus seems like a good idea. It would free up space on the city tracks too. The majority of travellers only go as par as the city centre as well.
