The attack on our railways

As a passenger, I've added the following to their Facebook page. Perhaps you all could add your two-pennorths, whether you are passengers, staff or enthusiasts.

Quote:

As an old fogie, I'd like not to have rely on ticket vending machines (need booking offices) and I'd like to have people ask when I'm unsure (station staff) and to take charge when things go wrong.(guards)

I think a lot of the blame for the current state of the network lies with the policy of fragmentation and privatisation brought about by past and present governments. It makes me mad when some politicians refer to passengers as "customers" and when it seems that accountants are the be all and end all of the way the network is run.

Even though it wasn't perfect I still miss the days of British Rail.

Some times I think we are considered nuisances. :p

As I always said when I worked you are a customer when you are making an enquiry or buying a ticket, but when you joined us on the train you are a passenger. this fits the dictionary definition for these two words.

This is the latest page on that (union) site:

Run West Coast mainline for public service

The West Coast debacle has shown the flaws inherent in rail franchising, and wasted millions of pounds of taxpayers' money. But the East Coast mainline is working well now it's in public ownership. Help us get the West Coast run as a public service too.

Thank your stars you are not "Service Users" this is now the definition given to those people in care either in Nursing homes or their own home the word Patient has been terminated

It would be quite impossible to have every one of the thousands of small station manned. No system could afford that.
