Rail U.K.

I have been trying to access this site for a couple of days without success.
Hope there will not be a problem with it as it holds[held] a great deal of useful
information.

I can get onto RailUK Forums, but D.O.G.F.A.N., if you're referring to Rail UK, you'e right - neither can I; there's a message saying "Please check back soon". Is that the same site? The address is:-
http://www.railuk.co.uk/

It's Rail UK.
Still down, here's hoping.

I'm not sure I've looked at Rail UK before - what kind of a website is it, ie what sort of info is (was?) to be found there?

I gathered the prime reason for the site was to promote books about the railways. There were always links at the bottom of the pages to link you into purchases etc.
I found the site very interesting.
For instance, in the steam section [or diesel, electric] you could type in any BR loco number and it would give you pretty much the life history of the loco in question.When/where made, number of loco's made, by whom, first shed allocation, last shed allocation, date withdrawn, date disposed of and who disposed of the loco.
I hope the site comes back on line soon.
Cheers.
All quiet on the Western Front, thankfully.

It does sound interesting, I hope it comes back, then I can have a good look. There's some other good sites out there, but I had them bookmarked on a computer which has recently died on me, so I can't give any links. However, WNXX is good for locations of stored/withdrawn locos, complete with photo galleries etc, and ABrail gives up-to-date listings of virtually everything that runs on the system. Both are well worth Googling to find. :)
