SCT stands for scattered Container Train

Crikey, what a mess down south at Bomen just north of Wagga Wagga NSW.
An SCT interstater went bush.
Their second go at dumping one on the ground in 12 months.

I have checked our ATSB mob, but as yet nil mention of this incident.
Due to the plethora of rail prangs and incidents, our ATSB mob are very busy.
As mention is made of "jack points" (catch points), I will eagerly await the ATSB report being published.
No doubt that somebody will cop a bung (please explain).
Thankfully the crew survived the incident to answer that bung.
Steve.

Hi Steve, thanks for that.

Whenever I see Wagga Wagga it puts a smile on my face. It's one of those wonderful names like Wanganui, that just sounds so exotic. Perhaps the reality isn't quite so delightful?

Possibly also because I was exposed to Monty python (against my will - it was everywhere ) I remember they did a sketch about Australian wine ..."'Cuiver Reserve Chateau Bottled Nuit San W****a W***a', which has a bouquet like an ab****e's armpit."

Anyhow, another one in the dirt. Those big heavy trains sure make a mess when they come off the road.

Keep us updated,

Cheers, John

G'day BW,
Gotta be careful now days with any references that can be misconstrued the non politically correct way.
The locals down south have attempted to get the town name altered to just the single utterance.
The repetition has always been regarded as less than intelligent.
The Dubbo locals don't like it neither when you doubles it up, Dubbo Dubbo.
The SCT incident rings of SPAD.
No doubt yet another urge for the implementation on ATP.
Steve.

I always thought it was a fictitious place like Bongo Bongo in Africa. It is really a place it is up the road from Gumly Gumly.

Names like this remind me of the Ronnie Barker sketch with a man who says everything twice twice. He references the difficulty of place names such as Baden-Baden (Germany), which of course becomes Baden-Baden Baden-Baden!
But of course, I can't find any video of it on the net:(

We had one in old N. Rhodesia called Que Que.

Wagga Wagga definitely exists here in southern NSW and has grown into a big town.
It supposedly means Crow in the local indigenous dialect, being repeated for more than one crow.
Though some don't approve of that translation.
Kangaroo supposedly originated from a Pommy invader's misunderstanding of a local word for the critter.
Amusing that them first white inhabitants of Sydney Cove almost starved as they didn't want to chomp on abundant kangaroo.
Now we have kanga bangers and roo steaks being all the rage, on the high priced meat shelf at the supermarket.
I can't afford anything on that high priced shelf, including the wraskally rabbit.
And back when I was a nipper, rabbit was cheaper than chook.
Still no word about this rail prang by our ATSB mob.
Steve.

Steve will have us all fluent in Oz soon. We only had chicken at Christmas, but there were plenty of rabbits in the shops. They have completely disappeared now, last one I had was in the 1960's, cooked in wine it was delicious. Suppose myxomatosis finished them off.

aussiesteve 20th April 2021 02:55

NUP, we still got wraskally rabbits.
The Myxi and subsequent Calici virus did not quell their numbers all that much.
Here in Bathurst, the council puts out poison baits in reserves.
Gotta keep hound dogs out of them reserves when so baited.
Foxes are another matter.
An amigo out on his acres claims that a fox or two gobbled up his chooks.
After a brown snake gobbled up many of the eggs.
We do also got Hares here, yet another thing imported by you Poms.
But, hares are not regarded as damaging to property as are them rabbits.
Don't know if you could chomp on hare, might be too tough with all that jumping about.
Our ATSB mob have made a comment finally about a SPAD incident down near Wagga Wagga back in march 2019.
The investigation for that has been discontinued as they cannot determine the reason.
A suggestion of INWARD facing cameras to monitor train crew was mooted.
HMMM, big bro is watching you pick yer nose.

Ha, that old chestnut.

This gets mentioned here from time to time, but I think the Safety Police know that they'll open a can of worms if they do.

Lots of footage of trains bouncing along whilst their drivers are struggling to keep their eyes open - often dropping into Microsleep or even nodding off for a few minutes.

When you're crawling into bed at 06:00 this week, and out of bed at 03:00 next week, then working all night the week after that, your body clock is mangled. Then they expect you to be able to concentrate for 5 hours at a time - and yet the motorway signs all over the land tell well-rested car drivers that it's not safe to drive a car continuously for more than 2 hours.

That's double standards by the Department of Rail & Road, and will be the train driver's defence if he/she wrecks a train. Once they start looking at the work hours and travelling times in the industry there'll be a s**t storm, which is why I don't think it'll happen any time soon.

Cheers, John
