Kestral brush works loughborough
I dont know if this is common knowledge but I heard from a reliable source that Kestral is sitting at Brush Vulcan Works in Loughborough. Is it back for good and will it be restored for mainline working?

Another little snipette.:D
At some point a Sulzer manager did visit Russia to assist HS4000 with some governor problems. During 1995 Geoff and the former Brush test bed foreman tried, through Sulzer Moscow, to see if the locomotive still existed, with the intent to try and bring it back to the UK. Unfortunately by the time of this request the locomotive had been scrapped. |
There were a couple of experemental diesels I think
I read in either Rail of Railway Mag (the only 2 I read) that it went to Russia and was scrapped there |
Oops - been a while since I drove past the works at Loughborough.
You dont suppose they have used the name on something else?? |
That "Reliable Source" is probably getting that class 56 under a tarpaulin confused with HS 4000, the '56 is not in any recognisable livery. Kestrel was Chocolate and Lemon with a white roof. I saw it several times, while being built, on test through Loughborough, Derby Works open day, at 41A, and at 34G.
Regards, 62440. PS. Take your wellies Bubblewrap, the Meadows tends to be rather soggy underfoot after what we've had today! (Been there, got my socks wet!) |

Are your socks dry yet ? ;) |
Been round this morning and all I could see was a class 56 in blue, sheeted down, a mk3 coach & the works shunter.
The fields were frosted over but quite dry & firm. |
