I was hoping that someone could help me here as I have been trying to find some info on the Altrincham gasworks line, which threaded through the streets to where the royal mail sorting office is.

I have tried the internet, but I could not find any info.
I know it used to use either 0-6-0 or 0-4-0 steam locos.
Any pics or info would be greatly appreciated,

The Gas Company had been set up in 1846 and moved to Hale Moss in 1847. In 1892 they promoted a Bill to increase their capital and to construct a proper road and erect a tramway from Altrincham goods yard to the gas works.

My local gas works in Altrincham was supplied with coal from the coal yard at the station along a street 'tramway'. The works had a small steam locomotive and a small highly unreliable diesel, but they occasionally used a Sentinel steam lorry to pull the coal and coke wagons up the street. This lorry was used on site to move tanks of Ammoniacal Liquor about and remained in service into the mid 1950's when the tramway was closed down (deliveries thereafter were by road lorry). I understand that the railway system on the Altrincham Gas Works was covered by an article in Railway Bylines magazine in 2000 but I have not seen the article myself.

I found this little snippet on some obscure forum.
"Opened about 1893, horse-worked until the 1920s, then a Sentinel steam lorry running on road wheels pulled the rail wagons along the street. In 1943, a Peckett 0-4-0ST called 'Arthur E Potts' took over, joined a few years later by a diesel loco. Four or five trips a day were run on weekdays. The line closed on 1958 and the steam loco was sold to Preston Docks. The line ran from Altrincham Goods Yard which lay where the car park is now behind the current platform 4. It joined Moss Lane at its junction with Oakfield Road, and followed Moss Lane to the gasworks which lay in the fork between Moss Lane and Urban Road.
