Enfield Town Loco and Kings Cross

Hello guys, I just read Alan Pike's story about his railway experiences and thought I would say hello to you all by registering on here.

I was at Enfiled Town from 1957 to 1963 and transfered to KX because of electrification.

I will wait for response before I go on?

Alan are you still around mate?:)

I am Dave Taylor and my first driver at Enfield was Jimmy Hill

Hi Dave, nice to have you aboard.

Alan visits the site most days, so you'll be able to get in touch with him easily enough.

If I were you, I'd change your username from that of your e-mail address. It's not a good idea to advertise your e-mail address so openly. Not that anyone on the board would misuse it, but we do get the occasional troll.

Hi Dave welcome to the forum, they were good old days back 50 years ago. Things change and we all move on I still live in Enfield Lock right next to the station. Enfield Lock was a station we passed through on the Hertford East runs usually on a Stratford based L1.

Here' a photo of a place you knew well.

Thanks Trev and for the welcome. How can I change it, I was trying last night but had no luck :-(

Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum from 2E0BLL, ex Saltley Fireman. I wonder if there were any "initiation" ceremonies at Enfield or Topshed? At Saltley it consisted of a good soaking from a boiler washout hose! Took them a while to catch me out, by using a decoy holding a hose. I tried to escape by climbing onto the footplate of the nearest loco in three shed, but when I got off the other side there was someone else waiting for me!
Didn`t take long to dry out though, just climb on the nearest prepared engine, and dry off in front of the fire. I don`t think the H&S executive would be too impressed by what went on these days! Regards Mike.
