Help needed - Recording Trains.
I work as film sound effects recordist. I am currently collecting sounds for an upcoming action film, which features various types of trains.
Looking for modern day freight/ public transport trains. I was wondering if anyone here knows any good locations or people i could contact to get some good recordings? The closer to London the better but all information will be helpful. Would like to be able to record trains in action (Pass bys, train int. Atmosphere while moving, stop/starts ect) And if possible mayb at a train yard? get on a train and record generic fx's such as doors, controllers impacts ect. All help will be much appreciated. Many Thanks, |
Please if you are showing trains on film make sure the sound matches the train shown. Nothing annoys a train enthusiast more if the wrong sound is heard. Even the door sounds are unique to a particular class of train. Definitely not generic.

It's an action film set on a train not a film about trains, so an artist license will be used to create interesting and exciting sound design that works with the action taking place.

I think you may have to travel out from London to see plenty of variety to satisfy your requirements, ---- Milton Keynes,or Nuneaton, Stafford is very good especially Tuesdays, with up to 20--28 freights (fast and slow), local trains, and plenty of express trains.

Thanks Keith I'll have a look into those.
