Hello from a Newbie Member

I'm joining to ask help from you guys, my father died recently in his 80's after 70 years as a dedicated STEAM rail enthusiast, and my mother has now got a library of several thousands of good condition quality books, primarily LMS and Narrow Gauge.

They range from an original 1938 LMS Passenger Station Working manual (LMS crest & School of Transport - on cover), then the LMS Engine Sheds series, loads of David & Charles books like "Williams's Midland Railway" (by Clinker), Liverpool & Manchester Railways Project 1821-31 (by Carlson), The North Staffs Railway (by Christiansen & MIller) and many other is that series, Illustrated Review of Midland Locomotives multi-volumes and other books like LNWR Precursor Family by Nock and Steam Locos of the East African Railways by Ramaer.

Is there a place where my mother could sell these books, preferably getting a fair valuation and have them going to other enthusiasts rather than just a book seller who will have his healthy margin out of her and then another healthy margin out of an enthusiast.

Thanks for advice.

Hello

Hello Ken'sLad welcome to the forum.:)

Welcome to the Forum Ken'sLad.

It sounds like you might have a very valuable collection of books. One of the specialist dealers in Railway Books might be your best bet because of the sheer number.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Here are a couple from the Railway Mags, I have no connection with either:

www.nigelbirdbooks.co.uk Tel: 01974 821281

Nick Tozer: www.railwaybook.com email: [email protected] tel:01484 518159 (answer phone). 155 Church Street, Paddock, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD1 4UJ.

Another possibility is to go to larger Model Railway Exhibitions. Take a sample list and talk to any of the people on the book stands. Nick Tozer may be at Nottingham Model Railway Exhibition this weekend.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Just checked the Nottingham Model Railway Exhibition web site and Nick Tozer is not listed but another possibility: Bill Hudson is: http://www.billhudsontransportbooks.co.uk/

Welcome to the Forum Kens lad, good place to be.

Be careful with the collection of books, I cannot offer any advice where the best place is to sell them, just make sure who you deal with mate, because there are many many "shady" characters out there who have no interest in them, only the money they can make. I am afraid railway memorbillia in any form today, is ruled by money making people who have no interest whatsoever in railways or their history, only making money out of it.

Best of luck anyway
