Hi
The last two times I was at Barnetby I almost died of boredom, it was so quite. There were no ore trains at all.
Thanks

Hi Saxokid,

In all the rules for enthusiasts and advice given on stations it is always that enthusiasts must NOT wear high visibility vests. (unless of course you were wearing it in pursuit of your railway duties).
I would love to make a trip to Barnetby this year but it is awkward (and expensive) to get to from Devon.

Wakey spotter 19th January 2011 21:10

lol HM181 !! Deffo not good !! :)
SaxoKid !! On this occassion unfortunate to say no didn`t see any enthusiasts ( my eyes were like those of Marty Feldman loooking for those signals !! Sorree !!. Normally I wave ( unless they are they are taking pics in which case I don`t wanna spoil their photo`s) :)

I was there in August 2009, I thought it was great for freight, although the Doncaster-Scunthorpe line was being worked on at this time, so all freight trains from Scunthorpe which would normally have used that route were routed via Barnetby yard, where the loco ran round and then took its load via Lincoln. All the TransPennine passenger services were replaced by buses, and the only passenger trains at Barnetby were the Lincoln-Cleethorpes services - all Class 153 single-car DMUs. For those interested, I stayed in a lovely B & B - Holcombe House - I think there are three premesis, none of which are more than 10 minutes from Barnetby station, the nearest two are less than 5 minutes walk, with a handy chip shop, a convenience store, and a post office just across the road from both, highly recommended!

I go to the Barnetby area about 4 times a year and its mostly busy allthouth the oar trains seam to drop off most afternoons. Arround tea time is busy with tank trains and you can usually see 3 class 60s.One out of Immingham and two reterning back to the refinerys

Ploughman 28th February 2011 18:16

Keep away during the Steelworks shutdowns. As less trains will be running.
Otherwise great place.

Barry Of Blackrod 28th February 2011 22:27

Hi Brian. Do you know when the steel works shutdows are. Baz

saxokid 8th March 2011 02:36
