Sorry I can't help you
I last visited Sheffield Victoria when the station was closed so all we saw were double header 76's on coal trains and of course being a school boy then didn't have a camera as I should have been in school Got a couple of nice Master Cutler coach seating plans ( two pieces of green card with seat numbers etc x2) from our visit as they were just about to burn them |
thanks anyway for your time. hope someone else can help,

I`ve got a couple of old pics of diesels under the 1500dc lines I took around 1980/81.
One shows 2 Class 08 shunt locos in tandem hauling a set of 16 tonne coal wagons. The other is a Class45 light loco !!! The pics are fairly small kodak prints and slightly faded last time I looked at them. They were taken aprox 5miles (ish) west of Wath. Also got a couple of pics of Class 76`s on Wath Depot. Will try and dig them out and scan them to my PC then post. Not sure if they will be much good though. Know a few Guys who worked on the Woodhead line so got a few tales !!! Chris :) |

L and Y side of Penistone Station, taken on the 26th of January 1984. I have also an entry in my NUR Diary of 1984 showing where we went with the plows that day. On the following day all jobs were caped at HM as a result of the snow. Also 2 pics of 2 lectric engines taken from the steps into Wath Yard from Station Road, Wath. These pics were taken in July of 1979, also pics of a Class 47 coming from Beatson Clarkes Glass Works enroute to Wath Yard, after detaching some sand hoppers at the Glass works. After Wath shut, HM crews worked into Wath Yard to service the pits around this location.EG Dovecliffe,Manvers Main, Michells Main and Hickelton on the S and K. Also we lifted the track in and around Wath from Quarry Junction right to Wath Road Junction, then upto Barnsley Junction to Penistone Station. |
this sounds good any chance of these being put up on the forum as i would like to see them. many thanks 37 260

I have found some of my pics and my diaries from the period 1981 to 2007.
These contain the day to day jobs I worked and other comments. In some cases the engines we used were always noted. I will scan what I have with explanations of the what, why and wherefore from memory. I have a full photgraphic layout of Clayton West Jct. Signal Box, showing the signaling in use at the time of the box closing. Aslo pics of the the last passenger down to Clayton West, showing the signalman handing out the last single token, and him placing the last signal lever in the frame, when the last train left. This was in 1983. |
Have a look at this link and spend a few hours looking at a once great railway, now a footpath.
http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...wath+yard&aq=f Just have a look at this link and be amazed at what was once the main line to London. http://www.railbrit.co.uk/location.p...ster%20Railway |
great stuff. brings back great memories. thanks very much for that. 37260

The attached link shows 2 pages from my NUR Diary showing the workings we performed with the HM Snow Plows. This took place on Thursday 26th January 1984.
S/o at 09:15 to plow the following routes;Huddersfield, Marsden, Huddersfield,Clayton West Junction,Denby Dale, Penistone , Barnsley Jct, Barnsley Stn, Reverse. Penistone photo stop, Huddersfield , BradleyWood Junction to Halifax, reverse, Elland, back to HM. Sign off at 17:15hrs. The man stood in the door of the 37 is a loco inspector from HM who went onto work for National Power.(Some one may recognise Him.) The Lectric locos were taken at the bottom of the steps leading to Wath Depot. This was in the Summer of 1980. As it is a few years ago I may have omitted some bits of info. http://www.imagebam.com/image/ad3fe5113707980 |

This job was the best on BR for geeting done. I have a set of pics showing me and my driver coming from HM to SB with a class 56. That was in the summer of 1994. |
Brilliant Pics HM181.
Thanks Very much for posting and the effort you put in. Chris :) |

Did you recognise the man stood in the Class 37 doorway, we spoke about him on the phone? He went to National Power. The man with the wooley hat , stood in the snow plow door was an HM driver, who was also a football referee in his spare time. There is no effort involved as the pics are at home, the scanner works well, and so does my memory. As you know av nowt else to do. |
In my time on the railways, we worked into the Eastern End of the MSW, eg Wath, Penistone, and the areas round Barnsely that were near to the MSW. This was Dodworth Pit, and Silkstone Jct up to Barnsley Jct. at Penistone.
Tinsley men woud have gone from one end of this line to the other doing ballast turns and sharing the electric work with Wath/Guide Bridge crews. Alas a couple of years after I went on BR, this line was closed over the Pennines. All the pits HM men serviced were gone and shut after 1985. All the railway was brand new in and around Barnsley. A good judge of a fully relaid formation is a lack of rubbish in the drains adjacent to the track. Not one supermarket trolley or bike frame did we find when pulling out this railway. I'm told that to lay CWR and deep dig a formaton was £1m per track mile. A crimminal waste of money. |
woodhead simply shoud not have seen shut.
|
still looking for that elusive photo of a dmu or diesel over woodhead some body must have one ?
|
It is quite simple for you to find stuff about the MSW google.
Just enter what you want in IE and its suprising how much turns up. http://dave-higson.fotopic.net/c490857.html |
Hm181 - Yes the Man in question is Brian Easter ! He was The Class Instructor in September 79 when I started as a Traction Trainee. A wonderful Gent :)
He "came out of Retirement" to work for the National Power Rail Business that I helped to set up. To have Brian in a Classroom at Nat Power was great because of the wealth of knowledge that he could cascade to the Trainees who were mostly from Power Station backgrounds. I can`t recognise the guy in the wooly hat tho !! Chris :) |

He would have moved from Wakefield Shed upto the Mill in 1963. Des also was a DMU driver, and did rest day relief at Huddersfield. He got 3 hours travelling time plus bus fares. The HF drivers did not like that , but ASLEF at this point did not work RD's. Des passed away a few years ago, after taking the money in 1994. |
