If only there were a decent service...

I wish there was a decent service in my area. We currently have Northern who provide trains at useless times of the day, I think it's about three trains a day overall. Two stops away however I could get a Merseyrail train which stop every half hour!! Talk about inconsistent service!

If that service went three stops further I could get the train to school...

Anyone else in the same boat as me? :(

Not as bad as that but, where I work there is a train station (Ardwick) but it only sees two trains a day, each in the wrong direction, so I can't use it.

Shame really.

I was thinking of perhaps trying a petition - but I'm not sure really how many people, if any, would actually care. Real lack of community spirit. big, big shame because the train i used to get got me home in 5 minutes as opposed to 20 minutes on a bus... wish things were better! :(

Welcome to the Forum Chris. Sorry to hear about the timetables. I am fortunate that I live near to the Matlock Branch with an hourly service.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Yep! Really irritating. :(

Does anyone know if it's worth fighting to get the trains to come at the right times? If they moved the times about about an hour, kids could get the train to and from school.

Well mate, I dont know where you live or what the situation is about the trains and the kids, but I doubt if you will "sway"the railway company about its timings, but I wish you success.

Well on the mid chehsire line, where I live, the MCRUA keep Northern in check. The trains themselves are not great, but at peak times the trains run at half hourly intervals, and hourly at other times.
One thing I know of is that a school train has been put on for Knutsford high school. The train was timetabled anyway, but is now double length, quite often being a 150 and a 156.
Anyone can get on and is very popular. Sadly I work in the opposite direction, so I can't reap the benefits.
Have you considered seeing if there s a local support group, or even starting your own?
It worked in this part of chehsire, so it might in yours too. Hoped that helps you. :)

You work for Seimens mate? Its a pity TPE can't use Adrwick as a kind of staff halt, it would save a fortune on taxi fares!

Thanks for the advice. I have been recommended by a friend to speak to my MP about this and the council.

It depends if there's a community group or a way of setting one up.

The Matlock train was mentioned in a post earlier, but the hourly service only came about due to pressure from the Friends of The Derwent Valley Line. It does however get strong support from the council which is trying to reduce congestion on the A6 road.

I would like to see "Northern" extend their Liverpool Lime Street - Warrington Bank Quay service to and from Ellesmere Port. It would give Chris an hourly service between Helsby and Ellesmere Port and would reduce overcrowding on the "Arriva Trains Wales" services between Warrington B.Q. and Helsby. Another benefit would be increased flexibility at Warrington Bank Quay as train movements are often restricted now that the Liverpool train blocks Platform 1 for 20 minutes in most hourly periods.

Does Northern have the rolling stock to do this?
Really, northern needs to get hold of a loco haulage permit to relieve the DMUs.
