At last! A forum dedicated to railway enthusiasts like myself. Briefly, I am aged 62 and have loved railways ever since I discovered a GWR main line 5 minutes walk from my house. I started taking an interest from about the age of about 8 or 9 I would guess. I was therefore lucky enough to see steam working on BR, then the transition period with the early diesels and electrics. I try to visit as many heritage lines as I can and am a long time member and supporter of the Severn Valley Railway.
Finally, I do wish the media would stop referring to railway enthusiasts as train buffs! Another annoyance is when they refer to a locomotive as a train! I could go on.....

Hi geoffsvr, Welcombe to the site from another newbie. I guess we should be honoured to be called 'buff's' as this implies that we are experts in our field of knowledge. ( I'm not overly keen on the term though.) Well happy reading on the forum. Regards Peter.:)

Hello

Hello Geoff welcome to the forum. How about the term train station and I think calling locomotives trains shows lack of railway knowledge. :)

Hello Geoffsvr and welcome to the Railway Forum. I agree with you about the media, but then the so called news papers are a law unto themselves. Its not only with railways, they even move county's around. A local paper said the the house was in Bristol in the county of Avon. There has been no Avon county for over 10 years.

Welcome to the forum Geoffsvr from another svr member. My home town was Smethwick. The Hawthorns Halt was my favourite spot

Hello Jeff, welcome to the forum, may you enjoy your time spent here.
If it runs on rails, to the public mind, it is a train. You and I know the difference but you can only bang your head against a wall for so long!
Train Station is an American import, they can't even tell the difference between rail and road!!!
What is Snow Hill like for spotting and photography?

Hello Geoffsvr and a warm welcome to the forum, I spent more hours working at Bridgnorth in the '70s than I care to remember. Best place on earth at times, sheer 'ell on earth at others. Then when we got the loco finished they put the shed up!

Regards, 62440.
