Hello All
Hello everyone, I love trains.
I typed "railway forum" instead of "rail forum" into Google and found this site! :D Hope to post here sometime, Cheers. :) |
Hello Green Lane and welcome to the Railway Forum. I'm sure you will find a lot in here Steam, Diesel, Electric and Model with all the other things that go to make up a railway. Hope you enjoy the site and post often.

This year, I've been travelling by rail on various daytrips around the UK. Yesterday I travelled on the Ellesmere Port-Helsby parliamentry service, it was very enjoyable albeit somewhat brief. Deisel, electric or steam I like them all in completely different ways. |

My username was initially named after a local railway station on the Merseyrail network, called Green Lane. (Also shown in my avatar). This is one of a handful of suburban stations within walking distance from where I live. Although it could also refer to a byway too, since my main hobby is hiking. As it happens, I do also tend to walk down a lot of green lanes, in fact some of which are actually called "Green Lane" (unrelated to the above station). Hope that's not too confusing! :D Regards! |
Welcome aboard the forum

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'd like to start a lil conversation by asking a question, how far you've travel by train?

Saturday just gone I took a day trip from Liverpool to Glasgow. As the crow flies it's about 175 miles each way, or about 350 miles for the round trip. But because the route isn't a straight line it's more like 220 miles each way or about 440 miles round trip. That's probably about the most I would typically travel in a single day. My total for this year so far is something like a quite modest 2,000 miles. Typically though I will travel much shorter journeys. For example if I take the train into North Wales (which is local from here) to go hiking it's typically 15 to 25 miles depending on where exactly I'm going. If I choose to take the train to work, under the river Mersey I think it's only about three miles so very short journey indeed (only on the train about 9 minutes), so in fact I usually get the bus. Would eventually love to take on some epic train journey like London-Shanghai or something, but alas it's just not possible for me to get away at the moment :D |
Hello
Hello Carmel and welcome to the Railway Forum. :)

Hello Carmel. The longest single train trip I dod was from Ndola in Zambia to Cape Town. It took 4 nights and 3 1/2 days. " weeks later I travelled to East London in S Africa, then a week later I returned to Ndola via J'burg. Another 4 nights and 3 days.

thanks for being responsive to the post guys. I had a good time reading your shared story. basically, i travel by train since i was 5. we yearly attend the great train expo across the United States and most of the time cross the Mexico border. just last year, i experienced the Amtrak from Boston down to Washington. It's really fun and great! Now, I'm based on GC Qld, my rail roading isn't that long as before. So I think, my daily train travel would be around 300-700 miles.
