class 70s?
:)does anyone know what class 70s workings in the uk?
|
I passed one down the A12 last week on a Saturday evening running a Freightliner container train service to Felixstowe. I dont think its the proper time for that train as they usually all go through in the morning. But Class 70's are in and out of Felixstowe almost daily but I dont know what the actual schedules are, sorry.

70.001 has been working a freightliner northwards daily on the wcml. I passed it at Willesden yesterday evening, ( I was working the 17.46 ex Euston) and passed me at Northampton Kings Heath approx. 19.15ish. So if you want to see it at Rugby, go up in the evening about seven, I'd say.

There are a couple being used on anglo- Scottish coal workings, via the S&C and Hexham.I think they are night jobs though.
|
Last Friday 70005 and 70006 were double heading a coal train south through Crewe at around 6pm. Will post photo when I get it off the camera.
[NB not regularly thru Crewee at this time ] |
Class 70 this morning travelling southbound towards Durham station at 08.15 it was 70004 working freightliner heavy haul. I was out with the dogs and heard it accelerating in the distance as it approached my position. The sound reminded me of a Deltic, sorry you Deltic fans but that's just what it sounded like. There was real awesome power and it was great to see as it is only my second class 70 to date.

some good class 70 action in and around Crewe at the moment........
|
Saw my first Class 70 today! No 70004 heading north through Hereford on a long train of hoppers. Strewth it was even uglier than I had expected.

Re class 70`s
Hi,
Last Wednesday I was down at Frodsham photographing a steam special, Just about to walk off the station when the special had left and this thing came through (I say thing because it is one ugly beast). Anyway thought you modern traction guys might appreciate it. http://i36.tinypic.com/8zmtqb.jpg |

Best thing to do is drive them straight into the Mersey!:D, God they are ugly, come back the class 40`s:cool: |
Someone said they are running down the Settle Carlisle and are around Keighley early evenings. Don't know anymore than that though
|
They look like an "art nouveau" class 58.:p:eek:
|
Any working through the preston area ?

Class 70's remind me of a Childrens song!! "There once was an Ugly Duckling"!! I reckon thats a perfect nickname for them! And in Steam Days, they said Q1's (Coffee Pots) Were Ugly!! Positively gorgeous compared to the "Ugly Ducklings"!!!!

I overtook one on Wednesday afternoon (70008 I think) going down the A12 between Hatfield Peveral and Chelmsford. The railway runs beside the road for a few miles.:D
It was on an intermodal and going about 70mph |
After the initial shock, there's something about them for sure, just a 'culture' shock to many...
|
Certainly makes a change from seeing yet another class 66.:D
|
Confession time phiilip how did you manage to overtake it if it was doing 70 ??
The GEML seems to be a good place for 70 s ,was on the other side of the river at maningtree last week in the afternoon saw several on felextowe container trains |
