Hello all,

Have always been interested in British Steam, doing all my spotting in the early to late sixties around North of England Crewe, got to Barry Scrapyard in 1970,never recovered from that really. Preservation movement in Britain is fantastic! I am a member of ELR and have just come down from riding behind the Duke and Cromwell double headed on Saturday last absolutely exhilarating!! we are so lucky.... Regards to all on the Forum :) Steam rules!!...... Mark

Hello mark and welcome to the Railway Forum. I did the Bristol to Milford Haven trip behind the Duke Of Gloucestershire the year before last. She in great form. Steam indeed rules especially if its a Garratt.

Hello there, thank you for taking the trouble to welcome me, did you manage to get to the Great Garratt gathering at the Science and industry museum last year in Manchester? Fascinating machines they were built just around the corner from where I live!

Hi Mark5557, welcome to this very informal forum. I went to the Garratt exhibition at MOSI in August, there's lots of my photos here:

Sorry Mark, I didn't get to the Great Garratt gathering, wished I had though. Still I have fired and driven worked on some of the best Garratts in the world.

Mark5557 23rd February 2010 21:13

Syd,
I am green with envy, I am not a railwayman but have fired and driven a black5 a few years ago for a very short experience course.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark and welcome, how is Tameside these days? I lived there for 40 odd years before emigrating to the South of Manchester.
Did you do your FXP on the ElR?

Cheers John
