loud:eek:
small:mad:
crowed:(

i would like to here your views on there

ccmmick 8th January 2010 22:39

Yes i go to London on a regular basis to see my Daughter in Chingford and yes the underground is loud small and crowded that depends on what time of day but it is still the best way to get across London but dont try it on Sundays due to engineering work.

Anon Mouse 8th January 2010 22:59

Depends where you go, I love Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham on the Metropolitan, its always quiet on that run :)

klordger1900 8th January 2010 23:42

The central line trains between Liverpool St and Mile End make a heck of a racket on the curves. There must be a lot of wear going on down there??

bramleyman 8th January 2010 23:52

I last went on it in October and between Kings X & Waterloo, and yes it was noisy, as well as crowded with many standing by the doors, rather than in the middle of the train, in case they missed their stops.

Normally, I would use Thameslink to London Bridge, then the LUL, BUT, on this day we boarded a Thameslink train at KGX, only for it not to move after 10 minutes, and NO reason given out.

bank is the worst:(

you need ear defenders

railwaybuddy 9th January 2010 12:14

top tip

when ever you on the underground go to the ends of the train (if you can):D
it is more easy to get on there because people get on in the middle to get near the entance/exit of the platform to the stairs.

note: this will depend on how many people are down there

railwaybuddy 9th January 2010 12:18

the new air condition in the trains make the trains cooler and the platforms, stairs and the wind when the train comes in are much hotter.

not a very good idea

48111 9th January 2010 12:44

Well do you know, I have not been on the underground for about 15 years, I used to use the Circle line frequently at one time, but dont go in to London now.

I have always liked the underground though, admitting I was not an every day user.

Try the Jubilee line from stratford to Canary Wharf - they have glass screens at the edge of the platforms where doors open at the same time as the trains. It keeps the drafts down and also stops people jumping onto the rails (maybe thats something to do with the Financial sector employing some pretty unstable types - I wonder why the credit crunch was so bad??)

I 1989, I visited the SNCF railway works at Hellemmes (Lille), in France. An SNCF driver took me to the Lille Metro station at Hellemmes, where I caught an underground train back to the main station at Lille - the platforms were seperated from the track by a (glass?) partition, and as you've observed on the Jubilee line, the trains stopped in exactly the right place for the partition doors to be used. I was very impressed with this, and that was over 20 years ago! One drawback - you can't get the train/carriage numbers from the platform! :)

they are very good but they can make the sound even worse:(

but very good idea, i have seen them on you tube

The newfangled underground trains don't have the romance of the last train out of Baker Street to Aylesbury on a Sunday night. Wooden compartment carriages pulled by an electric loco (Sarah Siddons etc.). The electric engine gave way to steam at Rickmansworth. Mind you, it was 1960!

Perhaps the perception of "romance" (other than with young ladies !:D) comes with age ?

ccmmick 19th January 2010 17:36

All railways are romantic railwaybuddy in one way or another :D :D :D :D

A couple of years ago I sat on the District line making my way home from Earls Court when this young lady stepped in at Westminster. Lovely young girl, blond hair, nice figure, etc. and you have to glance across every now and then just to make sure that you are not mistaken - she is gorgeous! Then she started tugging at her blond hair, I mean really face pulling tugs. Her extensions had to go. My wife and I watched in amazement as she gradually pulled them all out right round the back from right to left. She got off the train a few stops later as a different person!!! Youth - I have no idea.

I'm completely lost with all this. Does it mean that, if you love A1 "Tornado", it's a whirlwind romance? :D

... and after a couple of decades of all that tomfoolery, it will be trains, trains and more trains. You can laugh NOW - just remember these words of wisdom and experience in the years to come! :)

very true:cool:

railwaybuddy 24th January 2010 18:50

who has seen the ex under ground stock on the isle of white

just seen it on a trainspotting program, reduced from 8-10 cars to 2 cars and the way they have converted them is very clever

klordger1900 24th January 2010 23:00

I saw them last year and they looked very tatty. In need of TLC!

railwaybuddy 25th January 2010 16:19

major TLC

they look like the worst thing on earth

klordger1900 25th January 2010 19:43

According to a young lady in my office the worst thing on earth is Gibraltar - what a dump! Something like an old railway town in the 60's that lost all its jobs and no one can afford any paint or be bothered to clean up (actually Basildon comes to mind!).
Best place for tatty tube trains is down a big hole where you can only see them at the stations.

railwaybuddy 30th January 2010 11:07

very true
very true

.

Having had a day trip to Gibraltar last time I had a Spanish holiday I can't agree with your young lady.

Absolutely no comparison with Basildon ! (I used to live very near there ;))

Not so cool when they "rob" you and run away !

One lady had her bag "pinched" and a few brave blokes (me included) tried to retrieve it. We failed !!

But it was a good day out.

klordger1900 30th January 2010 23:08

It rained the whole time she was there - hence the comparison. Another lady then remarked that it was more like Canvey Island, but that was a bit harsh dont you think?

Very harsh !

When you travel to Gibraltar from Spain there are no road signs. You have to head for La Linea, which is the nearest Spanish
town to Gibraltar.

Never seen a BIG rock in Basildon, or on Canvey island.:D

Anon Mouse 30th January 2010 23:19

Would anywhere like to be compared with Canvey Island? mind you Buster Bloodvessel supports the footie team which is cool

klordger1900 31st January 2010 19:35

There's some pretty ugly buildings in Basildon which have filthy windows so look like rocks, but the only big rocks on Canvey are the 8ft. Concrete wall which surronuds it. Gives me the creeps thinking about living inside something like that, especially when the high tidies come in!!
