Deltic's
Hey who first manufactred the Deltics and at which shops? Like Doncaster. :confused:

The Deltics were manufactured by the English Electric Company at their own works at Newton-le-Willows near Warrington.

The prototype was manufactured by English Electric at the Dick Kerr Works in Preston, but I don't know if the production models were also produced there.

What about the LMS number 10000 deltic type that remained in service until the mid 1950's?

10000 &10001 were built at Derby LMS Workshop. 10001 survived until 1962 while 10000 outlived it by four years. I'm surprised they ween't wtihdrawn at the same time, as I only ever saw them coupled together

Deltic engine

It is facinating, so I wonder why steam is favoured among many?
I favour steam but have never been able to figure out why deisels never had the same character. I for one in the end prefer the first generation stuff to all the modern trains that traverse the much reduced system today. |
That may well be because how the thing looked was important in the days of the early diesels, and thought was given to it,s appearence.
As time went on it became less and less of an issue it seems. Which would certainly explain ugly locos like Class 67, and the hideous monstsrosity that it is about to be unleashed on what remains of our railway. I think Freightliner should have their operators licence withdrawn for even considering allowing such a nightmare loose! |
The cutaway model of the Deltic engine in the main hall at the NRM at York is fasinating and well worth studying - very clever stuff!
