Well, hello

Tristan, 23. Closest railroader in my family was a grandfather I never really knew. Interested in railways since... before I can remember. Wish I could remember, though. That is, I lived in BC in the late 80s-early 90s, and the British Columbia Railway is one of the fallen flags (that lasted into my lifetime, that is) I'd most have wanted to see.

Got into HO modelling for a few years in the mid-late 90s. Looking to get into N sometime.

After my early years, had basically no interest in foreign (both US and Canada counted as "over here") railways. My interests expanded, as the signature suggests. Really needed a lot more room for that. My weaknesses range from New York Central steam to older electrics, Alco/MLWs in eastern Canada and the huge iron ore trains of Australia and Brazil.

Guess that's the short story.

Hello Tristan and welcome to the forum, enjoy and all the best.

Yo Tristan & welcome.

Canada has a big foothold on today's British Railway.

Love 'em or hate 'em (and we do in equal amounts ;)) the output of London Ontario dominates our freight world.

Cheers,

John

What makes you think I haven't already got into studying Britain? ;) I started getting into the Rail Blue era a few years ago, and since then into steam.

SOUTHEASTERN-465 8th April 2009 15:44

do you know about nse?

Triplex 8th April 2009 16:02

Do I know of it? Yes. My interests lie more in the direction of freight, and railways with more locomotives.

Flying Pig 9th April 2009 09:18

I love hearing about freight in Canada and N America. The sheer size of the trains and the engineering challenge of getting them over mountains and down the other side is fascinating

Al Krug is quite a character. I'm sure you're familiar with his site Tristan, but if anybody on here isn't then this is well worth an oggle. He writes great 'photo essays', and when he talks about the hours and conditions it makes you realise about how freight guys are married to the job .
