Deltics
I'm going to sound like a complete novice with my next question, but I honestly don't know the answer. How many of the 22 Deltics are still intact and workable?

Again, many thanks Robbo.

Don't forget the Deltic Prototype as well which I think is in the Shildon Museum at the moment.
Wasn't someone thinking of building a Baby Deltic a few years ago? I'd love to see one of them. |
My Favourite of ALL the diesels.
|
And mine Bramleyman, they sound a treat all that power, don't they,
|
As a second man who worked on them I had one problem the train heating boiler which was placed between the two engines very noisy even with ear defenders.

I worked mainly on the old suburban & ECS trains using Brush type 2s & baby deltics. Also did a few trips to Cambridge some times using a Brush type 4. |
does the name driver hindhaugh ring any bells.

I only remember Tony Blaxhill? P(Peter)J Smith & Bob Markham.

Robbo,
55 016 is apparently missing off the preserved list? Happy to be in error of course, won,t be the first time! Cheers |
Rough Tor, I think 55016 is no longer classed as preserved as it is due to return to mainline duties with DRS, not 100% though.

So if it does happen, I think we should give a prize to the first person to snap a photo of the Deltic heading a RHTT. That would be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut ! ;) |
I loved the Deltics with the white cab surrounds in the late 70s. I'm just old enough to remember seeing a few at my hometown Haymarket depot.

Deltics were built for speed rather than torque under a really heavy load heard they were liable to throw pistons everywhere |

Saxokid: that's the whole class. In the 5th column P = Preserved, and C = Cut with the date following.
