Hello from Oz
Hello I am an Englishman from the pretty little seaside resort of Rosebud in the State of Victoria I am originally from Worcestershire.
I am a total fanatic on UK Railways mostly steam, I have no preference for any particular type of locomotives so long as they are steam and British that is good enough for me, at the moment I am learning as much as I can about the many Preserved Railways scattered throughout Britain. I have had a look around this great forum and expect to enjoy taking a look at it every day. David. |
What made you move down to Oz David if I may ask?
|

I was only a young boy when we moved to Oz, my Dad was on the reserve list after WWII and with the trouble in the Middle East brewing he decided to leave England, for my Dad 7 years in the Royal Signals was more than enough. The year was 1957. even after being here for 51 years my heart is still in the UK, I wish we had have stayed. David. |
Thank you all for the welcome and for those who wondered about our harsh Winter the temps have not been much below 60F during the day but it gets pretty cold at night.
David. |
No chance of moving back to England?

The closest I can get to home is with my memories, lots of British Railway DVDs, a OO Gauge model railway layout, British Magazines and forums such as this one, always good to get railway news from home and look at photo Galleries such as the one on this forum. David |
Oh well. To be honest you're not missing much, apart from the steam trains, and the scenery. If you can see it thru the rain! I'd love to visit oz but i'm not sure I'd come back!

Welcome to the Forum David, hope you enjoy it.
I had a great time in Oz two years ago including visits to The Valley Rattler, Zig-Zag and Puffing Billy Railways. Best wishes, John H-T. |
I know just what you mean David. I miss Southern Africa which is my home. Born in Bechuanaland (now Botswana), moving to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) as a toddler, and did not leave Africa until I was 22+. I have made my home in the UK and class myself as British. I have full British citizenship. I have visited family back in South Africa a number of times but as I was in Ian Smiths army, The Zimbabwe joke of a government will not let me back into the country. Southern Africa is one of those places that gets into your blood. You either love it or hate it, I love it
