Anyone from here going next weekend?

G6 UXU 28th June 2008 18:30

I will be at Rawtenstall. All the best.

Paul W 28th June 2008 19:16

I will probably be down on the Sunday.

Deathbyteacup 28th June 2008 22:02

Yes, I and my brother will most certainly be hovering around giggling like school girls at all the clag and thrash and what-have-you.

Hopefully we'll run into some of you, who knows? :D

While we're on the subject, does anyone reccomend good places to capture good photos / videos on the ELR outside of station platforms?
Also I find the ELR's ticketing structure somewhat confusing? What would be the best ticket for the day? I have a smallish budget since my brother is not earning at the moment and I'll have to pay for two. :p

There are sevral places you ca try to get some good photos and videos.

There is a good spot at Irwell Vale it is on the other side of the station. There is a bench that you can use and there. It is very good for getting trains heading towards Rawtenstall from Ramsbottom.
Burrs Country Park has the East Lancs running striaght through it and you can pictures of trains on either side of the Line.

Burrs country park is my favorite - big area with plenty of options

Summerseat also with pictures on the viaduct from the road and also at the tunnel

Ramsbottom station at both ends gives double possiblities plus the station itself

Irwell vale station and also at Ewood bridge.

Even the center of Bury taking pictures of them coming over "The hump" is interesting and also rounding the curve into Bury station from the carpark

Thank you for the suggestions. I have my FirstWeek bus ticket so I might do some exploring on Friday and come down properly on Saturday and have a ride also. :)

Trev 30th June 2008 23:42

Once again, I feel envious!

Have a good time, and post plenty of pics people! :)

robbo 1st July 2008 21:34

Went to Burrs today(Tuesday) and posted a couple of pictures on the forum.

Might return again tomorrow but alas my camera has developed a fault on returning home - sd cards wont stay in the camera - it keeps pushng them out :( - so might need sending off for repairs. Have a small Kodak I could use in the meantime though.

Roster for event is on the ELR Webby

Great pics John! Wish I could've gone today when the class 57 was there but alas, had to waste the day at work. again.

pavorossi 5th July 2008 17:19

I knew there was something I was meant to post before starting my time off work! I've been doing quite a lot of TTiing for this event, and my feet are killing me after 5 days of walking up and down trains! Now, the ticketing issue brought up by deathbyteacup. On most days a full line return (£11.40 adult, £7.60 concession) be valid for unlimited travel all day. However, if a day is classed as being a SPECIAL event, as opposed to just an event, there will be Day Rover tickets issued (£22 adult, £14.50 concession). If in doubt just ask the booking clerk or TTI for an all day ticket, he or she will know which one to issue. Failing that, feel free to send me a private message on here, and I will do my best toi sort it out for you.

Deathbyteacup 5th July 2008 20:59

Hey Pavorossi,

I was at the ELR today with my brother, the tickets cost £17.50 (Paid by Visa, no idea the ELR took chip & pin, saved me going out in the rain to find a cash machine :D) for two returns to Rawtenstall.

We had a good day and I'm about to put a few pictures up but thanks for that info, it's cleared up for me the difference between adult return / day rover I think!

PS. I'm not sure but was that you today who suggested we "Could stay on board if we wanted to sit in the sidings for two hours?" :D
My brother nearly wanted to take you up on the offer considering the rain.

G6 UXU 5th July 2008 21:51

Glad you and your brother had a good day on the ELR Danny, it is a great place to visit, just a pity about the rain today. All the best.

I apologise for the amatureish hand-shake. :D

DSY011 6th July 2008 18:55

You have nothing to apologise for, mI enjoyed the video.

Finally got all my pictures from the gala now posted.

Happier with the new camera body now after a little more use, but my d50 had some options i wish they had carried through onto the D8o ie add incamera sharpening to the picture. Some pictures just seem flat in comparsion. Could just be the extra mega pixels causing that.

G6 UXU 6th July 2008 20:11

Just had a look through John, there are some nice shots and the camera is doing the business. All the best.

P.S. where did you get all that sunshine from ?
