Hi There!!

Hello there! Nice to finally come across a decent rail forum and with a gallery too!! I'm really into photography, mostly an admirer though because I don't have a decent camera myself yet.
I'm quite the train newbie at the moment, my strongest subjects are aircraft and birds, I got into trains when I started taking them to college about 3-4 years ago, before then I'd never really travelled by train much at all.
My interest then grew when I met a train driver who is now my partner :D We often go travelling and I really enjoy having someone to talk to about my newest hobby.
That's also why I joined these forums, I want to learn more and one of the best ways to do that is by discussion, right? :)
Well that's all I have to say just now but if there are any questions I'll certainly reply to them.

Welcome.

My theory is that photography is 90% to do with the nut attached to the camera, and only 10% due to the camera itself. I'm always amazed by the results the old-masters got with a "pinhole camera" and a box of glass-plates standing by the main line.

So dont worry about sharing any train related photo here.;)

What type of trains does your partner drive?

Hi Articuno, welcome to the forum. Great to hear your into arlines and birds too, though those two things don't go hand in hand (or should I say wing in wing!) with each other :D.

Ah thanks, I will see what I can do next time I get a chance to go trainspotting.

Hmm lets see.. I'm pretty sure he drives everything in the current Northern Rail fleet. Definitely sure he drives 333's, they're his favourite simply because of the cup holder in the cab....!

Yeh I have rather nerdy interests according to most!

Anyway, thankyou all for the really warm welcome!!

DSY011 22nd May 2008 12:41

I wouldn't worry about having so called nerdy interests, everybody's interests are nerdy to someone. I enjoy railways and think to myself 'to hell with what others think, I have the company of many rail fans on this site'.
I have to admit to being surprised at how many Lady's are rail fans as well. On the trip to Milford Haven last month, there were just as many Lady's along the track, on the train and at stations as there were men. The knowledge of some them about the railways is as good as many men.

Syd, In some circles that would be deemed to be a sexist comment.:D

DSY011 22nd May 2008 22:37

John, In some circles just calling them a lady would be deemed to be a sexist comment.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Thanks again you guys! Your posts about sexism were hilarious.

I'm going trainspotting on Thursday or Friday! Will also have my partner's half decent camera, expect some photos!!
