G'day, Lance Here from Sydney Australia
:) Now i started to get involved with the railway when i joined SELRAP, (Skipton East Lancashire rail Action partnership) in May 2004, as a publicity and marketing officer, covering all aspects.
SELRAP has been campaining to reopen the Colne to Skipton railway, the missing trans-pennine link between Manchester and Leeds, since the summer of 2001. Vision the restoration of this missing link between Skipton North Yorkshire and Colne East Lancashire will provide a strategic route connecting the towns of central an Pennine Lancashire with the Leeds City region. Avoiding the congested lines in and around Manchester it would relieve pressure on the busy Huddersfield and Calder Vally trans-Pennine route. We are gathering support from all corners of the UK and abroad, but need more a lot more we would be very greatful if any one from this website can give their support to the project either Professional or other means. further information and contact details can be found via www.selrap.org.uk + lots of pictures and two films can be seen of the railway now and in the past. The more you tell people about this project the more support we can get. Best regards Lance |
Welcome to the forum Lance and good luck with your project.

Welcome to the site Lance and the best of luck getting that line opened. I love the fact that people are actively trying to get these lines opened that should never have been shut in the first place.

I hope you will all enjoy the web site, thank's for the reply

Hi, and welcome
Unless you are winding us all up with your location, tell us whether you are an Aussie with a interest in UK railways, or an ex-pat Pom still hankering after the old country :D |
Hi all, im Aussie with British parents, i know the area very well due to spending a lot of time in the UK, when i was growing up and still having family there in and around skipton, keighley, and Colne.
I have been for many a long walk and run along the old track bed, and alway's wanted to know why the line was ripped up in the first place, and now i know. Number one Dr Beeching had know intention of closing this line, in fact he had plans to plough money back in to it, and that started to happen until Barbara Castle MP the transport minister at the time, signed the documents for closure, due to the fact that the track and other materials were needed for some other railway. Here in Sydney i have studied marketing for a number of years and have had the experience with working with SELRAP during my 17 months that i was their from 2004, being here in Syd i have been doing a lot of Market research for them, and when i can, will be there to give them more support. It is a great pleasure to be able to contribute in such a way for the good of all, we are getting their, if any one of you have any media contacts or big business contact that are willing to support this rail project we at SELRAP would be very greatfull to you, or if you could lend a had or two. |
Welcome to the Forum Lance. Good luck with SELRAP, it would be great to have another transpenine route in that area.
Best wishes, John H-T. |

The power of the internet is still staggering to me, such that someone can assist in a campaign as easily from 12,000 miles away as from Yorkshire. Good Luck |
