Liveries
As I have recentely had a whinge at modern rail liveries. I wondered what others though about "the best" rail livery. This could be steam or diesel/electric. Ancient or modern.
I suppose the challenge would be a livery which looked good both fresh out of the shops and after a fair time in service. Almost anything looks good when it is brand new. I am not sure I have a favourite for locomotives. Maybe one of the maroon liveries? Definately chocolate and cream for coaches, though. |
Hi Shed Cat have a look at my Avatar that's my favorite loco colour.

As for the other coaching stock, clearly the choice has to be green. Engines either BR green or black livery. |
It might be boring to some, but I just like the BR blue corporate image. With a bit of green here and there of course! It's what I grew up with and it's what I remember the best.

Any shade of red or maroon will do for me! Hence why amongst my favourate engines there are 5690 Leander, 6201 Pincess Elizabeth and D832 Onslaught.

I think that it looks better in red than it does in green, I know it isn't really appropriate for GWR engines though. Still, I'd like to see it in BR Blue, like they did to some of the A4s, not like they did to the diesels.

You really must like red if you think one of God's Wonderful Locos looks better in something other than green or black.:D |
Harking back to BR's early experiment with blue livery for 8Ps, I though it sat well on Stanier pacifics and really looked the part on A4's and Merchant Navies but for whatever reason it simply didn't suit the Kings IMHO.

The triple grey sector livery must be the best, well though out, well designed and instantly recognisable. It all went downhill after that. :(

One of my all time favourites was the old Virgin livery (red, black and 3 white lines). Looked treally good on the HST's and Loco hauled stock.
