Northern Belle
Does anyone know the times of The Northern Belle charter from Ely to Harrogate on 28 April 2012. The website appears to have only the departure and arrival time at Ely with a note saying that booked passengers will receive the confirmed times with their bookings.
A freind of mine wants to photograph this train in the Harrogate area and would like some detailed timings. Regards. |
Got a problem here
I can't find a Northern Belle run on that day http://www.railtourinfo.co.uk/diesel.html Just checked the steam tours and no Northern Belle shown there either http://uksteam.info/tours/trs12.htm#apr |

Now why didn't it show ME that one :) |
Very expensive these trips, especially for two! Has anyone had the experience of a trip by steam? If so was it value for money?
Cheers Phil |

Personally I wouldn't be allowed to find out MY wife is my bank manager and £325 each is not good value for a meal on a train She may run to £40 each but then again she is not a railway enthusiast but enjoys shopping as do most ladies |
Northern Belle
I think some people miss the point of this journey, its not just having a meal on a train its about the whole experience and its a full day out for your money. When you think what some people spend to see a football match and only get 90 minutes entertainment for their money the Northern Belle trip seems good value to me.
|
If you were to calculate 90 minutes at an average of £25.00 for a football game, that would give you about .28p per minute. For an eight hour trip on a Pullman experience 480 minutes at .28p per minute would only equate to £134.40! A long way short of the £325 each they are asking!

Matter of choice boys. One man's meat etc.
But I can go and stay in Fort William for a few nights and travel on The Jacobite morning and afternoon for that kind of money. And with the wife!!! Stuart. |
Actually I would love to go on some of these special trains Especially The Orient Express
BUT there are a few considerations that being long-term sickness/un-employed has forced me to consider A/ I only have £38 pounds a month disposable income B/ I have to ensure I can access the train with my wheelchair (usually no problem with 48 hour notice) C/ my wife has to be available to come with me as my "carer" in-case I am suddenly taken ill again so WE have to afford TWO tickets But I do think that some companies do charge so much because they HAVE to make a BIG profit and they know that there are some people out there who have a large disposable income (Ask any one who sell lottery ticket who buys the most tickets answer Older people) |

I can still dream though! One day maybe!!!! Cheers Phil |
