It's a telecommunication cable between the locos (47798 and 799) and the royal train. I suppose it's to allow the Queen to speak to the driver.:D

Working for EWS have you ever had any involvement with the royal train? (if you have I assume that you can't say too much)

I havent in recent years but in BR days Charlie boy visited Bradford and I was the shunter on duty at the time so best overalls that day, however a ballast train arrived at the same time that was over-length and the signaller put it in the adjacent platform so it was unable to run round (Bradford Interchange is a dead end station for those not familliar) so in Charles absence we used his ex-works 47 to take 5 or 6 of the rudd wagons off the rear of the train and put them in the wall side siding and then release the ballast loco by moving the remainder of the rudds into the far platform, not a very glamourous duty for a royal loco.

It's always good to see one of the present royal 67's on lowly duties. I saw "Queens Messenger" at Warrington the other day on coal wagons.

That one was at scunthorpe on goole scunthorpe steel tripper last year, i have a pic somewhere I also have a pic of myself at the controls of 67029 in scunthorpe anchor sidings .

I've seen the royal skips on engineering trains around the south east of England.

Probably are. I've seen a photo of a royal 47 hauling a failed virgin 90 and Mk2 set but I've seen the royal 67s work all sorts.

This may be a bit off topic but you will probably find the royal 67s and the rest on all sorts of stuff now beacuse of the amount of 66s going over to France. A couple of weeks ago, EWS operated a 67 driver training run from Hoo Junction - Hoo Junction via the Medway Valley line, Tonbridge, Rye, Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton and reverse.

Could also be why the few remaining EWS 37's are still working pretty hard.:)
