Welsh farmer and a parked tractor.

Why did he only get community service?
Why wasn't he ordered to pay all costs?

So happy no one was injured. What a stupid thing to do!
The train driver must have been well shocked. Hope it does not derter him from doing the sterling job of keeping trains safe.
Farmer should have been made to pay for the damage too.
Regards
Phil

What over £160,000? He'd have to sell his farm, probably not worth that much :)

I guess the Judge decided it wasn't a big deal. It was only a train - it didn't derail and nobody was seriously injured. (Not my opinion of the seriousness, but possibly his).

Possibly because he didn't have the money to pay it. If he's daft enough to park his trailer on a running line he may not be awfully good at farming either.

keith morgan 29th October 2011 13:29

After watching the video, i still can't believe the farmer left the trailor obstructing the track, i assume he was a local man and knew the line was in use, you could'nt make it up.

bramleyman 29th October 2011 21:32

He should have got at the very least, a Custodial sentence for such a Stupid act.

klordger1900 30th October 2011 15:43

I think they should have banned him from driving (oh but his livelihood might suffer!) and make him re-take a driving test with special reference to safety on the tracks (a network rail course) I wonder if he ever took a driving test in the first place? That man is an idiot and very likely to something just as stupid in the future - God help us!

Unfortunately for some of us, me included, spelling does not come easy and it has long been the custom on this Forum not to comment on spelling, grammer and punctuation. Please can we continue to observe this tradition!

Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Well said John H-T. We are lovers of railways. We are not here to slag off fellow enthusiasts because they miss-spell words.

saxokid 13th November 2011 02:10

Some people are so stupid!! lucky no one was killed.......

Shimbleshanks 16th November 2011 08:11

Perhaps the best punishment would be to replace his occupation crossing with a bridge - and make him pay for it. In installments if necessary.

That is no excuse, and statement is an insult to the vast majority of Yorkshire people who are totally literate.

I think he should have been made to pay at least some of the costs, even if it did mean losing his farm. People like that should be made an example of. Look at the no of rail accidents where people have been killed.

royalscot37 24th December 2011 18:53

Should be hung up by the doo dah's for that. Blatent disregard for public safety.

27vet 27th December 2011 06:29

He also needs psychiatric evaluation.

D.O.G.F.A.N. 27th December 2011 13:45

I see the Christmas Spirit has evaporated already.Oh well, such a pity.

swisstrains 27th December 2011 22:05

I think that the BBC's reporting of this incident, in which they say that he "parked" his trailer on the rail line, is responsible for many of these strongly worded comments about the farmer. If you read the BTP press release http://www.btp.presscentre.com/Media...HIRE-1743.aspx you will see that the BBC have conveniently ignored the fact that he had only stopped his vehicle in order to open a gate and had not "parked while he fed his horses" as they stated.
There is no doubt that the farmer had acted dangerously by using the crossing incorrectly and without permission but I think that the BBC's reporting of the incident has been deliberately edited in order to make his actions appear more foolhardy than they really were.

27vet 28th December 2011 06:09

Press sensationalism. I would have thought that the BBC was more professional. Live and learn.
