Class 142 to be Named

I understand that a class 142 is to be named 'Timothy Hackworth' at Darlington at 10.00 22nd October. Has anyother member any information please?
Thanks

What an insult to Timothy hackworth!

62440 4th October 2011 16:26

I thought that too.

Regards, 62440.

I thought that the 142's were already named - but not with ones that can be mentioned in polite company!

You and 62240 got in before me. The whole idea beggars belief.

What bright spark came up with this one?

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Which coach?
Or is one coach going to be Called Timothy & the other Hackworth.
If other 142s are named & then "split" we could have some amusing combinations!:p

I think a Class 142 is an excellent choice. It illustrates just how little some trains have changed over the years.
I'm sure Mr. Hackworth would instantly recognise the similarites between the 142 and some of the early coaches used on the Stockton & Darlington Railway.;)

Fair point John. About the only difference, apart from the I.C.E., is that the 142 has a roof!

Best wishes,

Very true John.
Although, judging by the amount of water that can often be found inside a 142, even that is debatable.:D

The weight of the plate will probably make the unit topple over, i would personally call it 'BR's Cheapest and Nastiest'

hairyhandedfool 7th October 2011 12:26

Knowing Northern, it won't be a plate, but actually just a sticker/vinyl.

probable so if it were a plate it would soon be shook off with all that twoing and frowing a 142 does

How about "Rochdale Rattler" , "Blackburn Bouncer" or "Clitheroe Clanker". Who has any other decent suggestions?

62440 9th October 2011 02:29

"Teeside Tumbledryer"?

Regards, 62440.

Tony 9th October 2011 18:14

Hi 62440,
How can you have a tumble dryer that is full of water? (From another thread).

62440 10th October 2011 00:20

OK, How about a "Stockton Spindryer" then?

Regards, 62440.

Tony 10th October 2011 19:39

Nice one ! How about a "Newcastle Nutcracker" or "Stockton Squarewheeler"?

The naming did not take place due to opperational difficulties? It will now take place in March 2012 and will be a class 156, anyone have any further information?
Thanks

Did someone point out that fixing a nameplate on to a class 142 would double the value of the unit and that would mean a higher cost for leasing it?

Regards, 62440.

I spent 20 seconds on Youtube finding out what a 124 is and 10 mintes on Wikipedia reading about Timothy Hackworth. I'm in the former camp - it would be a bad choice.
