Bachmann 2010
 

Bachmann's plans for the next 18 months were announced today.

00: S&DJR 7F 2-8-0; MR 3F 0-6-0. Class 85 electric; Class 350 EMU and Derby Lightwieght 2 car DMU to add to the Class 70 already announced. There is also a rerun of 9F Evening Star.

N: Deltic prototype and Class 03 shunter.

I had hoped for the 7F but the Midland 3F is a pleasant surprise. Disapointed about the lack of a Dukedog but a good selection for me. Great stuff Bachmann!

I don't think I could justify running a BR liveried S&D 7F on my layout (GWR and MSWJR) but I think I'm still going to have to buy one! Purists can look away!

Would you believe it I have just built a 7F for a customer glad he didn't know about Bachmann.

Especially as the Bachmann website is promising it before this Christmas (2010!) and I bet you charged him more than £128!

I should have charged him that but he is a friend so I ended up working for about £2.00 per hour. No monet in kit building!

That's the one I was going to use before I heard that Bachmann had been to Butterley, MRC, to measure 53809 about 18 months ago.

The Bachmann one will work out rather cheaper that buying the DJH kit and the end result will most likely be a lot better than I would have achieved with the kit!

What kits do you make? I have some doubt as to whether the RTR would always be better than the kit loco.

I have had a discussion on another forum about this as to plastic v metal for locomotives and stock. There is something indefinable about the mass depicted in a metal model. I have put indentical models together, kit and RTR and - regardless of detail - the metal kit looks heavier and more workmanlike.

I might start a thread on this, one other thought came from a professional photographer. A plastic mould is almost perfect in every detail and can look artificial whereas a metal model has many minor imperfections, like the prototype. An thoughts?
