Best narrow guage design.
 

What is the best narrow guage loco type ever built?
Steam, diesel or electric.
My personal view is the leek and Manifold locotype.

I am currently reguaging this design in my CME capicity.
This is my final job change for the moment by the way.

I think this type deserves to live again.

Yes they are to be treasured.
I would like to see that one at launceston if it is still there.

The vale of Rhiedol tanks are wonderful. If only they could be persuaded to lend one to the ffestiniog line or somewhere like that.

I quite like the locos built by exmoor steam railway.
Their general design which is adpated for many different guages is wonderful.
It is good, but I am not sure if it is the best however as although modern, the cylinders look a bit small.

Maybe I am biased, but for me it has to be the Double Fairlie! (despite the problems keeping the feeds to the bogies steam tight!) I also have a soft spot for K1. (if it had been cut down to fit the FfR it would have needed 3ft high footplate crew!)

I am also very fond of the Rivers Irt, Mite and Esk (in no particular order)

Quite a few years ago Evan Davies and Mountaineer (the Alco) paid a working visit to the VoR - going up the last bit into Devil's Bridge was noisy! I asked about an exchange and was told that the VoR locos were out of gauge for the FfR.

In my view it's hard to beat the old Darjeeling and Himalayan B class.

Lynton and Barnstaple Manning Wardles (as modified) perhaps? Or the Lough Swilly Kerr Stuart 4-6-0T's. But for my money, the Isle of Man Beyers.

Well we are going to see the new L&B loco 'Lyd' on the Ffestiniog in a year or two which i look forward to.
