Class 151s

The other day I saw a Sprinter train in North Western dark blue with gold star livery but saying "Arriva Trains Wales" on it. The number of the train started 151. I didn't think there were any 151s in use, so could it have been 150/ but the 0 had disappeared and the / looked like a 1?

That would've been a 150 you saw but there were class 151s a few years ago. See here for a photo of a 151. Theres a bit of information at the link too.

Here's a photo of the other 151 (001) taken at Derby 0n 4/4/1986. At the time the 151's were being used on the services to Matlock.
If I remember correctly the 151's were stored at Llandudno Junction for quite a while before they were finally scrapped.

I'm sure I have seen a photo of the two units stored near Crewe in sidings.

When were the two 151s scrapped?

Craig, You probably have seen a photo of the 151's at Crewe. The units were originally put into store at the old Llandudno Junction shed in about 1994. Sometime later they were moved to the LNWR sidings at Crewe because the site at Llandudno Junction was being redeveloped. I don't think they were actually scrapped until about 2003/4.

I’m aware the original 151s were scrapped (the train I saw looked like a 150 not the picture above), but I wasn’t sure if any 150s have had modifications and been renumbered like with the former Transpennine Express 158s which have now become 159s . I know North Western Trains refurbished the inside of their 150s but didn’t renumbered them. Although if it was a modified 150 then it probably would be in Arriva livery.

Why don't you ask "tkboomer2" and "dlh1983" if they know the answer to your query? They appear to be quite knowledgeable about trains in your area.
They shouldn't be too hard to contact as they often use a computer with the same IP Address as yours.

I don't think any 150s have been renumbered to 151s becuase if this was the case I'm sure it would be in the railway magazines.

The 0 at the end of 150 may have worn away so when looking at the number from a distance it would look like a 1.

I normally use the computer at a Cheshire library which I understand runs off a connection at the main county library in Chester. All the computers must have identical IP addresses as once when I tried to post a message in another forum it stated that your I.P. has been barred and stated the I.P. Three different computers also stated the same message.

It's a small World isn't it?
Not only are "tkboomer2" and "dlh1983" often online at similar times to you but they could actually be sitting next to you in the same Cheshire library. You could start up a local branch of Railwayforum.net:)
