Group of us went to Foxfield to-day to pick up 140 chairs for the ashpit siding. Another tick on the list! Best wishes, John H-T. |

All the loop and mainline track is now down at Duffield and today and tomorrow should see everything screwed down and clipped. Jacking, packing and slewing will wait for warmer weather when the sleepers and ballast are not frozen! There is also the platform to rebuild!
A few photos from today, including laying the sleepers in Duffield tunnel for the north end headshunt. ...... and yes it was snowing again! Best wishes, John H-T. |
Great work John look forwards to getting up there and taking a ride.
all the best Garrat |
thanks for the pics John, you all deserve a medal with the dedication shown in the current weather (or a visit from the men in white coats :) ). Mind you I was helping with the brush overhaul last night till late so who am I to say anything. you will soon be there now.

Just a view of the Wirksworth platform at Duffield from long ago:
(The picture is a screen grab from the DVD "KIRTLEY JOHNSON CO" a film made in 1962 by the BBC in their series "Railway Roundabout" available as part of a DVD published by www.dukevideo.com, included for the purposes of discussion (and may interest people in buying their own copy) |
Great photo Wyvern. Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes, John H-T. |
1958 en-route to/from Wirksworth for Railway Roundabout filming by any chance?
Regards, 62440. |
I assume so 62440, in company with the Kirltley 2-4-0, the compound and the Tilbury 4-4-2T. As far as I know it was the only time all four of them went up the branch together. There are some lovely posed photos of them in Wirksworth yard, especially the Compound and the Single.
Best wishes, John H-T. |
Yes John, I have seen a few of them. The compound at least got dragged up the branch twice, took it all the way back to Derby to turn it round so's the other side could be photographed. See the Railway Roundabout DVD's for details. It's the 1959 disc, not 1958 as I posted previously.
