You're probably right, but I didn't take any notice of DB trains until 1990, so that's be before my time I expect. On the other hand, I didn't mind the liveries on the DR locos in Eastern Germany in 1991, maybe a combination of less garish reds and a substantial covering of grime, in many cases. And there was such an incredible number of locos back then - the only units were old railcars & trailers, plus the Berlin S-bahn units. Still some standard-gauge steam pottering about the place then as well...

(75 out of the 76 DB photos are thankfully in black & white - warning - this should change at some stage!) AND I've discovered I've got some pics here of a couple of preserved TEE units, I THINK they were red & cream. I'll find out when I've scanned my slides.

...and that's even MORE garish than the UK version; slightly o/t, but, to be honest, I've never been a fan of ANY DB liveries except the red & cream as used on the 103 class electrics.
I don't mind the German version of verkehrsrot, but the yellow nose makes the British version too loud. For a German scheme I really don't like, I'd have to say the overall blue applied to diesels in the 70s and early 80s.

Well, I went to see "St. Blazey T&RS Depot" today.

I have to admit it was nice to see a 37 looking nice and new. Was stood right next to her and she sounded great too.

To be honest is isn't as "in your face" in person either, but it still isn't great...
