Dave, I had my wedding reception at Clifton Down Station 39 years ago. They did a good spread for us as they had only just opened and were trying to get noticed. Cost me around £80 according to my wife (I can't remember). I must go and have a look as to what it is being used for now, but the pub we used closed many years ago.

My brother & his missus used to live about 10 minutes walk from the station, and I went there every weekend for a few weeks when I redecorated his flat, that would have been early in 1994. Naturally, this often involved calling in at the station pub - what was it called? It was pretty busy then! :D

I don't know if you are including operational railway stations on the network and preserved railways as well or just stations on the "NR" system, but one station I found on a heritage railway where it you can sit on the bench on the platform and it is so peaceful and quiet with loads of memories of when it was busy with GC trains running through in the steam days, is Quainton ROad, yet just over the footbridge is the hustle and bustle of the rewley road station and all the visitors coming and going.BUt out on the platform sitting on the bench it is so quiet and time to unwind and relax.

Changing the subject slightly, but still on the subject of pubs and railways, does anybody remember a pub on the platform on the southern half of the circle line. I remember going in it about 30 odd years ago with a mate just for the one so we could say we had been in there but for the life of me I can't remember which station it was? Maybe there were others, I don't know.

I don't know about the southern half of the circle line, but there was certainly a licensed refreshment room at Kings Cross circle line station circa 1967, I used it on several occasions.

Whilst on British Rail we had a driver who new every pub nearest to our PNB points and yards when on freight. A great guy to know I can assure you.
