The East Somerset Railway will be reopening on Wednesday 14th April. Their Spring Steam Gala is scheduled for 24th/25th April - no details yet of any visiting locomotives, but I'm sure resident Ivatt 2MT No.46447 & 45XX No.4555 will be in action, plus Barclay 0-4-0ST No.1719 'Lady Nan' is also available for service. I think another GWR 'Small Prairie' might still be at Cranmore as well - No.5542 - which was hired in last year to cover for No.4555 when this loco was withdrawn and sent to Tyseley for firebox repairs. No.5542 was still at the ESR in December, taking it's turn operating their Santa Trains.*

The Kent & East Sussex Railway has just announced that it will be reopening on Saturday 22nd May. To begin with, these trains will be operating to the same basic timetable as when the railway reopened last July after the first lockdown.

The Mid Hants Railway has announced that they will be reopening from Monday 12th April.
They have a Spring Steam Gala for April 30th-May 2nd, with the first visiting loco announced as the Bodmin & Wenford Railway's ex-GWR 64XX 0-6-0PT No.6435. The 'Pannier' has been on loan at the Spa Valley Railway since December 2020 and presumably, the visit to the MHR will be a stop over on it's journey back home to Cornwall. Tony |

Bluebell Railway has announced today that they will be reopening on Thursday 20th May. I feel they missed a trick by not starting to run on Monday 17th May, as this is the anniversary of the arrival of the first loco & items of rolling stock when 'Terrier' No.55 'Stepney' arrived with two ex-SR coaches on 17th May 1960. This year will be the 61st anniversary of the arrivals - the attached photo shows a recreation for the 50th anniversary in 2010.

The West Somerset is set to reopen on Saturday 22nd May, initially between Bishops Lydeard & Williton only as trackwork will continue on other sections of the line including the major undertaking of replacing the Seaward Way Level Crossing at Minehead. The WSR hopes to later extend some services through Wachet to Blue Anchor (these could be Saturdays only) and, once the level crossing work has been completed, train services could resume over the full length of the line from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, potentially during July.

It had already been suggested that the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway would reopen on Saturday 17th April, but it is now confirmed. Tickets are now on sale for the first K&WVR trains starting in just over 2 weeks time.

The Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway is planning to reopen on Sunday 2nd May. In preparation for this, both of the operational steam locomotives, 'Leader' & 'Melior', underwent their in steam boiler examinations on 26th March.
