Prototype Deltic
My favorite diesel loco was the Prototype Deltic. Whilst firing at Kings Cross I was secondman on this loco on many occasions. For me it made a nice change to put the shovel down and put my feet up.:o
|
My favourite class of deisel loco has to be the Class 60. My first memories of railways were of Class 60s on freight workings through Scunthorpe.

All of the western hydraulics lovely locos

In order of importance, best last.
Deltic, Class 60, Class 47, class 37. |
Class 37, probably the best ones!! been around for years!! and still going strong.....:)
|
I always enjoyed driving class 47s,and also the 56s. A special mention for the class 37s - bloody horrible to prepare and work on but they would pull anything.
Worst locos for working on were the class 22s - the D63xx locos.Low in power, uncomfortable and very much prone to failure. Always enjoyed the class 31s,although not the most powerful. They had a most comfortable cab. |
Well for I would have to have a list so favourite last:
25, 47, Kestrel, 37, 17, 20, 44-specifically D1 the first ever diesel I saw |
In the early years I only liked trains for the way they looked, these locos that got me into 'thrash'! In the early years I was a spotter, these locos got me into 'bashing' - THE CLASS 37. Reliable, makes sweet music, nice shape and simply the best!
Class 37s have pretty much been a constant presence in my life. I've grew up with them and they are STILL HERE TODAY! They really have stood the test of time and I'm so pleased it's a engine that means to so much to me. Long live the 'Tractors'.... |
