Not long now for the Grand re-opening of the Duffield line.

Meanwhile up in Scotland, we continue to plough on with the restoration of 26004 at Boness. In order for us to carry on with the restoration, we are looking for new contributors to help fund this work. All contributions are converted into shares (£20=1 share). All shareholders have a say on what happens to 26004 and 26024.

We will be hloding our AGM in June or July. Date to be finalised.

Is this the Engine also used on the first batch of Sulzer Type 2 (24) rated at 1160hp?

Yes. There are two versions of the 6LDA engines, 6LDA28a were fitted to 24's and 25's and 6LDA28b were fitted to 25's and 27's. The "a" version produced 1160 hp and the "b" version produced 1250 hp. The extra power in the b version coming from the addition of intercoolers.

We own 2x class 26's, 26004(D5304) and 26024(D5324), hence the groups name. We have just started restoring 26004.

The 6LDA (owners of 26004 and 26024) AGM went very well with an increased turnout of 50%. Over the last year we have increased shareholder contributions.
We are in an economic downturn. As such, I am looking at increasing the amount generated by fundraising other than the buying of 6LDA shares. "Easyfundraising" and "Easysearch" are two excellent ways of doing just that. I was wondering if other preservation groups have experience of using these forms of fundraising? I set up ours about 8 months ago but have found it difficult encouraging members or supporters to participate. It doesn't cost the user anything at all. And yet we have just 8 supporters, all shareholders I think.
I am looking into "Referrals" next. I got the "Easyfundraising" and "Easysearch" gen from a class 20 support group myself which was a referral. After 8 moths I still haven't had any luck with referrals. If anyone has any tips please let me know please.

6LDA Preserving 26004 and 26024

Help 6LDA Group raise money for the restoration of 26004
We are raising money towards the restoration of 26004 and maintenance of 26024.

Any enthusiasts who are interested in buying £20 shares to fund 26004's restoration please contact me at: [email protected]

If you don't wish to donate but would like to help 6LDA group's 26's then you can. The next time you wish to buy something on the internet, first go onto the "easyfundraising website, "http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/panel/", select 6LDA Group (Preserving 26004 and 26024) as your good cause and buy on the internet. It will not have added any additional costs to your shop BUT 6LDA Group will have benefitted. Approx 1% is given to our group.

Many thanks,

Brendan Kilgallon (6LDA Treasurer)

Restoration of 26004 Update

Work on 26004 is progressing slowly at Bo'ness. it is expected that work on the battery box and batteries can be completed once space becomes available. However, we have been preparing the battery box itself, ready to receive a full set of charged batteries.

We seek like minded enthusiasts willing to contribute towards the restoration of 26004. If anyone wants to donate monthly please contact: [email protected]

We are organising MONTHLY "Working Sundays", where new and old
6LDA members are invited to get their hands dirty by helping with the bogie restoration.
We are a friendly group. Most weekends you will find Stuart Sellar, Alasdair Cowan, John Howell applying elbow grease! Feel free to come along. If you are interested in participating, please contact me,([email protected]) and I will make sure that one of the team will be there to meet you!
Many thanks,

Brendan Kilgallon Treasurer (6LDA)

26004 restoration

The restoration of 6LDA Group's 26004 continues. However we have been hampered by the discovery that one of the bogies was of such poor standard that we have had to scrap it. We do have a spare bogie and are now in the process of preparing this!
