Wow, Locojoe - respect! You are a God !!! Maybe I watched you flying past on your trusty steed in the 60's.

Hi Tony no we were not gods, just normal hard working men. I fired on several A4s on the ECML and I would usually give the spotters at Hitchin a blast on the old chime whistle as we raced through. You may well have watched us flying past on the ECML in the late 1950s or the early 1960s.

Just a point which LocoJoe will confirm. It wasn't Mallard that did the 126mph it was 'Silver Fox' using 'Mallard's plates.

If you did give Alan a wave, he probably wouldn't have seen you, we was always too damn busy on them.

I didn't fire to any A4 except to take one down the station from 'Top Shed', but I did fire all the other 'coal-scoffing' b,stards at Kings Cross.

Hello Dave well I can't really confirm it wasn't Mallard that did the 126mph record but 'Silver Fox' using 'Mallard's plates. Why would Gresley and the LNER staff want to do that.
Your right about the hard graft Dave especially on the climb to Potters Bar. not a lot of time for waving on that bit eh.:)
