In 2005 we worked Green Arrow from The NRM into Holgate sidings to place the NRM support coach on the rear of a set of dual brake coaches.
As the Green Arrow is only in vacuum, the guard of the train had to pull the strings on the coaches to get rid of the air, then use use vacuum from the steamer.
On return to York an electric engine was placed on the front of the coaches and the guard had to go round and pull the coache strings to get rid of the vacuum, so the leccy could use the air brake
This was an HM guards job, and this train run from March to November on the first Thursday of the month.
The drivers were either from Doncaster( Dave Court), Thornaby( Davie Blair.) or Healey Mills( Nev Evans) and Dave Cathraw fireman.
These were good jobs for the HM Guards.
