the point being if he DIDNT beat up the guy, all he did was rob the train....

it was the crime of the century at the time but small beer by todays standards...the sentances were always too harsh, designed as a deterrant to anyone else doing it again ...25 years to life for the equivalent of holding up a post office?

I think he should be let free, then deported back to Argentinia where he will be free and not costing us lots of money and not where he wants to be.

Don't you mean Brazil?
How can you deport him? he was born here!
If released into a bail hostel an eye can be kept on him.
At his age I don't think it likely he will re-offend.
People have been given less for murder.
I don't think keeping him in jail will serve any purpose.

The way I see it he comitted a crime, he was found guilty and sentenced by a court of law, and now he ought to serve the full sentence, irregardless of his age.

The only reason that Biggs came back to the UK as far as i can see is,

He was running out of money,he was ill and wanted the use of the National Health Sevice for whitch he had paid no NI contributions because he had been in Brazil for all those years since his escape.

He did the crime, just because he was out of the country for most of the sentence does not mean he should get off light now he has come back, let him finnish his sentance as passed down by a jury of his peers.

I personnally do not care how old or frail this criminal is, he can rot where he is.

ive thought about this now,
and i think he should spend the rest of his life in a cell,if he would of served his time in the begining he wouldnt have to face the music he has to today,and if he knew coming back to britain would get him a space in jail why did he even come back in the begining and personally i think now,if he wants to go back to brazil he can stay there in one of there wrotting crappy jails,but the only thing for it now is to let him serve the sentance on a basis that how long he escaped prison he should serve inside,no-one should have sypaphy for him if you do somthing like this you got to do your time no fooling around with it either!

2000 years ago or so a very wise man said (to paraphrase) that we should turn the other cheek if someone struck us....that would be the Humane and Christian thing to do in this case.

(By the way I'm an Atheist but it doesnt make it any less true)
