Thank you Bubblewrap for your comment and photos. There has been something missing
here as I don't seem to have heard of a Durranhill MPD. I have looked at a 1954 Ian Allan Midland book and can not find that name amongst the depots. How could this be? I see it closed in 1959 but looks as though we missed out. I suppose it was a depot for the renowned Settle and Carlisle line. We might have been tired after three sheds in the dark and were about 13 at the time. Fancy missing out on a Carlisle shed ! |

I have recently made many trips to Carlisle by train.
I didn't know the station before electrification but it still has some of the magic of a border town station. Almost as many freights passing through as passenger in slack periods around midday. There is an excellent book on the station by Dennis Perriman, available on the web. Jack |
