The one that me and my circle of railway minded friends had a soft spot for for was a Class 11 shunter.
12121 spent its entire life in Hull as far as I know, initially allocated to Alex Dock, then Dairycoates and finally to Botanic Gardens. It stayed at Botanic for two or three years, never doing any work and seemingly rusted to the rails. BG never seemed the same place once 12121 was dragged away to be dismantled. :( I also had a soft spot for the Hull 03's. What I'd give to see one of them on station pilot duties at Paragon again!!! Nice idea for a thread Lee! |

Encouraged by my lead, several others then came out of the closet & as a rule, chose named 47/4's from Old Oak Common as our pet loco's. My choice, 47510 Fair Rosamund was soon transferred to scotland as a push-pull 47/7. Therefore, to be different, I then chose 47549 as it didn't carry a name. No great surprise to find that about 18 months later it was named Royal Mail & about 3 years later was transferred to scotland! It's gone now, courtesy of a 'heavy shunt' at Peterborough. But I had great fun (& even more frustration) chasing it around the country. |
Thanks Dave,
Wasn't 47549 one of the few 47's ever to travel by sea?;) |

Another favourite of mine was Python, copped and cabbed at Sheffield Midland around 1972. Happy days! :) |

I have always had a soft spot for 55003 Meld, she was the first Deltic I saw, I was parked up at Abington just off the A74 when she went North at full speed that is a sight and sound that will remain with me forever. Chris.

I'd love to be able to remember the first Deltic I saw. It was probably on my first train spotting trip away from Hull, which would have been York. But even worse is the fact that I cannot recall the identity of the last Deltic I saw to complete the class. I can recall the occassion, it was on a northbound train at Doncaster and I vividly recall turning to my mate and cheering as I realised I'd classed them. I just cannot remember which one it was. I've got an idea that it was Crepello, but I'm not sure if I just think it was that one as that particular loco eluded my mate for years, so I could just be getting confused.
Bloody rubbish memory banks!!!! |
