Grantham has ticket barriers, Peter, I don't know if platform tickets are available or not. There is plenty of parking, but it's very expensive at the station, £11 per day for cars, I don't know what is charged for scooters. It might work out cheaper to go to perhaps Bottesford or Ancaster, the nearest station to Grantham and park there and take the train into Grantham, the fare is £4.10 day return from either. The platform staff at Grantham are very friendly and helpful in my opinion, and the coffee and cakes in the Pumpkin cafe are excellent! (Get yourself a "Bite" card and get a 20% discount. www.bitecard.co.uk ) Hope this is helpful and you have an enjoyable visit.

Regards, 62440.

Hi Peter
Ah Grantham, ECML one of my favourite places to spot back in the early 60's! Being a Lincoln lad in my early teens I used to catch a DMU (bog kart!! as we afectionately called them) to do a days spotting. What joy to see the A1's and the odd A4 passing trough along with the new Deltics and Brush 4's all painted in two tone green. Then there were a whole load of sidings and the 35B shed! A grand old station though a bit windy at times as I remember, there were no barriers then and a platform ticket would cost just twopence, though we never needed one travelling from Lincoln.
Can't really say what its like now, only I hope you enjoy yourself and I would be interested to know what you find?
Regards
Phil

I have spent many hours on Grantham, including not so long back, finding the staff most welcoming and allowing me access to the platforms.

On another forum there is a big thread devoted to Grantham.
Some fascinating photos included. Currently about 40+ pages long.
